When I drove to work in the early morning hours, I used this time as my “quiet time”. One morning I heard the Holy Spirit say in my heart, “What is the treasure in the field? ” He then reminded me of the verse in Matthew 13:44:
44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
Matt 13:44 (NKJV)
“Then He asked who is the man? What is the field?” I have heard it taught that this is an example of when someone finds Jesus as their Savior and Lord they give up their old life and receive/follow the new life in Him. That is not where He was going with this. The following is the word I received from Him:
“The man in this story is God. The field he went into and later bought was the world. The treasure he found is you. When he ‘sells all that he has and buys the field,’ is when He gave his Son Jesus for you”.
15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 3:15-17 (NKJV)
“Why did he “hide” the treasure that he found, I asked. “What do you think the owner of the field (the devil John 12:31,14:30) would have done had he knew about it?” At that moment He reminded me of this verse:
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
1 Cor 2:7-8 (NKJV)
It was on mornings like this one that the drive into work were not long enough! 🙂
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Eph 2:1-10 (NKJV)
