Christmas Tree (1)

When I was growing up we, my three sisters and my brother along with my dad, would go into the woods and cut down our Christmas tree and on occasion the older kids and my dad would shoot mistletoe out of the trees. We would then bring the tree home where mom was waiting with fresh baked goodies and other party favorites. We proceeded to decorate the tree with lights, candy canes, ornaments we collected over the years, some of them where home made while others where passed down from my grandparents, and of course a lot of tinsel and an old tin star shining brightly on top.

A few years ago, while I was visiting my sister, the Lord gave me a story while I was sitting in her living room admiring her Christmas tree. As I gazed upon its beauty, she always has a perfect tree, He showed me something that I would like to share with you.

“You are a tree!” He said. Okay, I have been called a lot of things, but a tree is a new one 🙂 He then reminded me of a verse found in Jeremiah 17:7-8 (Amplified Bible):

[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.  For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.

Jer 17:7-8 (AMP)

  • THE TREE– The tree is an ever green; it stays green all year round. It symbolizes everlasting life. In John 3:16 He says;

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

John 3:16-17 (NKJV)

English: A bauble on a Christmas tree.

  • THE ORNAMENT- Ornaments on the tree symbolize testimonies or precious moments you have in life.  As I looked at my sisters tree I saw new decorations and some with pictures ,while others were hand made .  These decorations/ornaments are special to her they remind her of years past and the fun she had. The ornaments we have in life are stories of how God has blessed us or delivered us out of a bad situation;they are praise and adoration we give to God.

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:  Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,  Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,  Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalms 103:2-5 (NKJV)

  • THE LIGHTS- We are the light of the world. The lights represent the different peoples there are in the world. Wherever we are, when we share what God has done, we shine as lights on the Christmas tree.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.

Eph 5:8-10 (NKJV)

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.

Christmas gifts

Matt 5:14-16 (AMP)

  • THE GIFTS The gifts under the tree are symbolic of the fruit of the Spirit. A fruit tree has fruit that we enjoy but the tree itself does not eat them. They are not for the tree; they are not ornaments or lights. What gift/fruit do you have that you can share with others?

the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Gal 5:22-23 (NKJV)

  • THE ANGEL/STAR– To top off the tree we put an angel or a star. These ornaments symbolize you and I as the messengers of the good news. The star guided the wise men to where Jesus was staying. The angels visited Mary and also the shepherds.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matt 28:18-20 (NKJV)

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

Psalms 1:1-3 (NKJV)

Have you ever had a song or songs that inspire, comfort, encourage, or minister life to you? There are songs for every thing from finding love to loosing it, and everything else in between. But then there are songs that never get old. They are your “go to” songs. Ya know  the ones you can listen to years later and they still move you. These are such kind of songs for me. I literally grew up with these songs. I actually had the honor of meeting this person and know she lived what she believed. This month I am remembering  Janny Grein, who answered her call and in the process still inspires me to “stand” in the midst of the storm.

When I was in elementary school( before Pintrest), we would make Valentine folders, and hang them on the wall. When class was over we would take a list of  names home with us to make a Valentine cards. Mom would buy a box of assorted cards for me to use. Nowadays you can get them at the dollar tree! On the day of the party we play games and pass out the cards/candy. It was a fun way of making each child feel special/they were valuable. My fondest memory of Valentines day however, was the way my parents celebrated it. Mom would cook something we all (six of us) enjoyed eating, and later that evening, dad would call us all together, and  give us a small heart shaped box of candy or the Whitman sampler chocolates along with a hug as he said ,”Happy Valentines Day!”.

1.)  a sweetheart chosen or complimented on Valentine’s Day  2.) A gift or greeting sent or given especially to a sweetheart on Valentine’s Day; especially :  A greeting card sent on this day. Something (as a movie or piece of writing) expressing uncritical praise or affection : tribute (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

This Valentines weekend write a Valentine to Jesus/God. Make one up or find a verse that says what you want to tell Him. Get creative with it.

How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge and put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They relish and feast on the abundance of Your house; and You cause them to drink of the stream of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light. O continue Your loving-kindness to those who know You, Your righteousness (salvation) to the upright in heart. Let not the foot of pride overtake me, and let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Psalm 36:7-11 (AMP)

PS.  I LOVE YOU JESUS 🙂

Twilight in the Wilderness, (1860), Cleveland ...

READ: Matthew 3:16-17, 4:1-11

Do you remember what you experienced when you received Jesus?

It has been forty years for me and I can still remember the relief and love I felt that day.

Have you ever been in a worship service or at a concert/meeting ,where the presence of God was Sooo strong you just wanted to stay there?

Several years ago my church had  concerts at our coffee house on Friday nights. We had local bands play,  sold espresso drinks and had ministry time at the end of the concert. There were several occasions when the presence of God was so strong I wanted to stay there all night.

Symbolically/spiritually-  we will see what happens when a person becomes born again.  Also there are seemingly endless amounts of truth in these verses, this is just a few of them! (With Gods word there is always more than meets the eye!)

It all started with

16 And when Jesus was baptized, He went up at once out of the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he [John] saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him. 17 And behold, a voice from heaven said, This is My Son, My Beloved, in Whom I delight!

Matthew 3:16-17 (AMP)

When a person asks Jesus to be their Savior and Lord they are raised into a new life in God through Christ.

3 Are you ignorant of the fact that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
4 We were buried therefore with Him by the baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious [power] of the Father, so we too might [habitually] live and behave in newness of life.
5 For if we have become one with Him by sharing a death like His, we shall also be [one with Him in sharing] His resurrection [by a new life lived for God].

Romans 6:3-5 (AMP)

The Holy Spirit comes and lives inside them (This is referred to as being “Born” of the spirit). God becomes their Father:

14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15 For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father!

Romans 8:14-15 (AMP)

But look what happens next.

1 THEN JESUS was led (guided) by the [Holy] Spirit into the wilderness (desert) to be tempted (tested and tried) by the devil.2 And He went without food for forty days and forty nights, and later He was hungry.
3 And the tempter came………….

Matthew 4:1-3 (AMP)

Notice:  When we go without spending time regularly in Gods word it is the same as not eating! We get hungry(depleted) and that is when the “tempter” (devil) comes! He will always question your position(Who you are in Christ) and your authority (Jesus gave you His!)

“THEN” HAPPENS! Monday always follow Sunday, nighttime follows the day.

“Then” is after the music stops and everyone has gone home, the seats are empty and the lights are turned off.  When you are all alone and you start to get hungry

“Then” the tempter (the devil) comes..

Remember what God has promised (His Word concerning) you  and know you are NEVER alone ( I will not leave you orphans -Jesus). Know who you are in Christ when the devil starts questioning who you are with, “If you are...

The following are some scripture verses you need to affirm (write down, speak out loud, and say often) so you will be prepared when “the tempter comes”

39 And that through Him everyone who believes [who acknowledges Jesus as his Savior and devotes himself to Him] is absolved (cleared and freed) from every charge from which he could not be justified and freed by the Law of Moses and given right standing with God.

Acts 13:39 (AMP)

1 THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.

Romans 8:1 (AMP)

17 Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

 2 Corinthians 5:17 (AMP)

24 [All] are justified and made upright and in right standing with God, freely and gratuitously by His grace (His unmerited favor and mercy), through the redemption which is [provided] in Christ Jesus,

Romans 3:24 (AMP)

1 THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

Romans 5:1 (AMP)

Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.
For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37-39 (AMP)

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever–
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
John 14:16-18 (NKJV)

Happy Thanksgiving!

*  “Congress recommends a day of…thanksgiving and praise so that the people may express the grateful feelings of their hearts…and join…their prayers that it may please God, through the merits of Jesus Christ, to forgive our sins and…to enlarge His kingdom which consists in righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.”

– Continental Congress, 1777

As we give thanks to God we acknowledge that He is our source of provision and life. And it also opens to us the blessings of God to come upon us. When we pray before eating we are not asking/saying the blessing. We are giving thanks to God for His blessing in our lives. May you be blessed today and all season long. Whatever you do today, hanging out with family and friends around a feast,     watching football or going shopping, remember, you are a blessing someone gives thanks for! HaPpY ThAnKsGiViNg!!!

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)

Thank God, Eat turkey, Watch football, Shop, Repeat

*Quoted from a tract taken from the American Tract Society around 1830. Wallbuilders, p.o. box 397 Aledo, Tx 76008, David Barton 2013 “Thanksgiving in America”

What does Thanksgiving day mean to you?

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.

Psalm 33:12 (NKJV)

What does Thanksgiving day mean to you? Is it a day of cooking and cooking? Or do you let someone else do the cooking? Is it a day of parades, food, and football? Or are you getting ready to “shop till you drop”? All these things are fun and I have to admit I have done them all, well accept letting someone else do the cooking. I worked in retail for 15 years through the shopping frenzy, and I actually enjoyed it! On TV the cooking shows are all about “the big day” and show you how to cook a turkey, as well as what to do with leftovers, while the commercials are more about Christmas shopping than they are about Thanksgiving.

On September 6, 1620 the pilgrims came to the new world. After many hardships, where  almost half of them died, they had a miraculous harvest with the help of the local Indians. In December 1621 they declared a three day feast to celebrate God’s provision. As we enter into the “season of thanksgiving”, let’s remember to give thanks to God for all He has provided for us.

In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)

*From  the first ever Thanksgiving Proclamation on October 17,1789, George Washington stated:

“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of the Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His  benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.”

13 Now when Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, Who do people say that the Son of Man is?
14 And they answered, Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.

 Matthew 16:13-14 (AMP)

Notice how the world sees Jesus?  “Some say John the Baptist”…, because He and His disciples where seen baptizing. (John 3:26,John 4:1)  Some say Elijah”…, because of the miracles (signs) He did. (John 2:11, John 2:23-25)…Jeremiah or one of the prophets“…, because of the way He taught. (Matthew chapters 5,6,7). Even in pictures today when you see Jesus, He looks sad, stoned or glowing!

15 He said to them, But who do you [yourselves] say that I am?                                                                     Matthew 16:15 (AMP)

When it comes to YOU, who do YOU say He (Jesus) is?

Does the way you are acting confirm what you believe concerning Jesus?

16 Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 Then Jesus answered him, Blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied) are you, Simon Bar-Jonah. For flesh and blood [men] have not revealed this to you, but My Father Who is in heaven.

Matthew 16:16-17 (AMP)

* “Knowing” Jesus through relationship instead of “knowing about” Jesus ,as the world does, brings blessings on/in your life! The blessing is I AM is all you need!

1 GOD IS our Refuge and Strength [mighty and impenetrable to temptation], a very present and well-proved help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1 (AMP)

14 Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness—trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never].
15 He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

 Psalm 91:14-16 (AMP)

*To “know” Jesus is to accept Him as your Lord and savior. (John 3:16, Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 10:9-10) Take some time today to think about who Jesus really is to you. Share your thoughts with Him and enjoy knowing Him!
