WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?

And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.

1 John 4:16 (NKJV)

This month I want to focus on LOVE. Why not everyone else is! 🙂 If  you look around the stores right now (in the U.S.A.) you will see stuffed animals in white, red and pink. Heart shaped boxes filled with chocolates. It is also the time of year retailers sell the most red and white roses.

What does love mean to you? Do you see yourself receiving or giving the things just mentioned? Does someone special come to mind? So what does God’s word say about love?……Everything! It’s what it is all about!

Every time  I think of love, I hear the Tina Turner song, “What’s love got to do with it?”,  it has a catchy tune. Why I think of this song is a long story for another day. The chorus of the song says:

“What’s love got to do, got to do with it
What’s love but a second hand emotion
What’s love got to do, got to do with it
Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken”

The Love we are looking at today is not, ” second hand emotions,” as the song says. In fact it is not an emotion at all! Nor is it an it!…. Confused? Love is a being who is all powerful, and through Him all things are held together.

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

Colossians 1:16 (NKJV)

He heals, not hurts (breaks), the broken heart.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [curing their pains and their sorrows].

Psalm 147:3 (AMP)

Who promises to rescue, protect and shelter you and I from the “storms of life” when we abide and obey/trust Him. ( All of Psalm 91 is a good chapter to memorize)

HE WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand].
I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! For [then] He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.  [Then] He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge; His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.

Psalm 91:1-4 (AMP)

In Him love is perfected (made complete). Only through Jesus Christ ( God’s Son) can we have and know True LOVE.

In this the love of God was made manifest (displayed) where we are concerned: in that God sent His Son, the only begotten or unique [Son], into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins.

1 John 4:9-10 (AMP)

We love Him, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19 (AMP)

For further reading enjoyment read the book of 1 John. It is only five chapters long. It is one of my favorite reads.

STRONGER THAN BEFORE

Have you ever had a song or songs that inspire, comfort, encourage, or minister life to you? There are songs for every thing from finding love to loosing it, and everything else in between. But then there are songs that never get old. They are your “go to” songs. Ya know  the ones you can listen to years later and they still move you. These are such kind of songs for me. I literally grew up with these songs. I actually had the honor of meeting this person and know she lived what she believed. This month I am remembering  Janny Grein, who answered her call and in the process still inspires me to “stand” in the midst of the storm.

For which is easier: to say, Your sins are forgiven and the penalty remitted, or to say, Get up and walk?

This is my verse for today. I thought I would share it with you.

He gives power to the faint and weary, and to him who has no might He increases strength [causing it to multiply and making it to abound]. But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.

Isaiah 40:29,31 (AMP)

It’s not only God’s will to save us from sin. He also healed us. He gave us power and strength… He delivered us from our sin. “But to those that “wait” for the Lord…” He makes us whole…healing is a part of salvation.

LOOK UP THESE VERSES  (You won’t regret it! 🙂 ) –

  • Psalm 103:1-5
  • Psalm107: 17, 19-21
  • Isaiah 53:4-5
  • Jeremiah 17:14

The word salvation in Greek is- SOZO- meaning nothing broken, nothing missing.(Romans 1:16, Romans 10:10-13 for example)

“Your faith cannot operate beyond your knowledge of His Word.”

– Gloria Copeland

Notice it does not say we will not have times of feeling weak (faint and weary), or feeling worn out/exhausted  (no might). It says that as we expect, trust and rely on God,  look for find out what His word/promises are concerning our situation, and hope in Him, apply stand, receive, take what He says as the Truth. Our strength and power will be renewed.

Two things to always remember:

  • It is Gods will to heal and restore us.
  • Gods Word never fails.

SAY WHAT YOU BELIEVE
For with the heart a person believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified (declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses (declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.

  Romans 10:10 (AMP)

Declaration/ConfessionSay it out loud and receive it!

*You give power to me when I am faint and weary. In my weakness, You increase strength in me.I wait for You [expect, look for, and hope in You] and You renew my strength and power. I will lift up with wings of strength and rise as an eagle. I shall run and not be weary, I shall walk and not faint or become tired.                                                                                         ( Isaiah 40:29, 13 personified)

For which is easier: to say, Your sins are forgiven and the penalty remitted, or to say, Get up and walk?
But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins and remit the penalty, He then said to the paralyzed man, Get up! Pick up your sleeping pad and go to your own house.
And he got up and went away to his own house.
Matthew 9:5-7 (AMP)

EVER LIVING HOPE

With all the stuff going on in the world these days, we need to remember, our Hope is a living Savior king! And through Him we are protected and our inheritance in Him can’t be touched!

Praised (honored, blessed) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah)! By His boundless mercy we have been born again to an ever-living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  [Born anew] into an inheritance which is beyond the reach of change and decay [imperishable], unsullied and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, Who are being guarded (garrisoned) by God’s power through [your] faith [till you fully inherit that final] salvation that is ready to be revealed [for you] in the last time.

1 Peter 1:3-5 (AMP)

Without having seen Him, you love Him; though you do not [even] now see Him, you believe in Him and exult and thrill with inexpressible and glorious (triumphant, heavenly) joy. [At the same time] you receive the result (outcome, consummation) of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:8-9 (AMP)

JESUS IS OUR EVER-LIVING HOPE!

WHAT WAS GOD THINKING WHEN HE CREATED YOU?

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.  And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NKJV)

You have a purpose! He has the plan! 🙂

WATCH YOUR STEP

1. Look carefully then how you walk! 2.Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),  3. Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil. Therefore 4. do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but 5.understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.

Ephesians 5:15-17 (AMP)

HOW TO WATCH YOUR STEP (The following numbers correlate with the numbers in the verse)

  1. You choose the path you are walking on. Pay attention to the signs.
  2. Live life with purpose. Don’t be stupid!
  3. Don’t waist your time guessing, or doing it “My way”.
  4. Spend time hanging out with God in His word and in prayer.
  5. Pay attention to what He is saying through His Spirit Who lives in you. This is only for those who have received Jesus as their Lord.

Life is a journey, NOT a walk around the block. You have a purpose.

BE MINE :)

When I was in elementary school( before Pintrest), we would make Valentine folders, and hang them on the wall. When class was over we would take a list of  names home with us to make a Valentine cards. Mom would buy a box of assorted cards for me to use. Nowadays you can get them at the dollar tree! On the day of the party we play games and pass out the cards/candy. It was a fun way of making each child feel special/they were valuable. My fondest memory of Valentines day however, was the way my parents celebrated it. Mom would cook something we all (six of us) enjoyed eating, and later that evening, dad would call us all together, and  give us a small heart shaped box of candy or the Whitman sampler chocolates along with a hug as he said ,”Happy Valentines Day!”.

1.)  a sweetheart chosen or complimented on Valentine’s Day  2.) A gift or greeting sent or given especially to a sweetheart on Valentine’s Day; especially :  A greeting card sent on this day. Something (as a movie or piece of writing) expressing uncritical praise or affection : tribute (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

This Valentines weekend write a Valentine to Jesus/God. Make one up or find a verse that says what you want to tell Him. Get creative with it.

How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of men take refuge and put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They relish and feast on the abundance of Your house; and You cause them to drink of the stream of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light. O continue Your loving-kindness to those who know You, Your righteousness (salvation) to the upright in heart. Let not the foot of pride overtake me, and let not the hand of the wicked drive me away.
Psalm 36:7-11 (AMP)

PS.  I LOVE YOU JESUS 🙂

AND YOU HE MADE ALIVE!!!

AND YOU [He made alive], when you were dead (slain) by [your] trespasses and sins In which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God]. Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh [our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature], obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind [our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings]. We were then by nature children of [God’s] wrath and heirs of [His] indignation, like the rest of mankind. But God—so rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us, even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ; [He gave us the very life of Christ Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace (His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation). And He raised us up together with Him and made us sit down together [giving us joint seating with Him] in the heavenly sphere [by virtue of our being] in Christ Jesus (the Messiah, the Anointed One). He did this that He might clearly demonstrate through the ages to come the immeasurable (limitless, surpassing) riches of His free grace (His unmerited favor) in [His] kindness and goodness of heart toward us in Christ Jesus. For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2:1-8 (AMP)

For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.  This includes you who were once far away from God. You were his enemies, separated from him by your evil thoughts and actions. Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault. But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.

MUD PIES

Mud Pie

Image by The U.S. National Archives via Flickr

When I was growing up one of my favorite things to do was to make mud pies! Mom would tell me to go outside and find something to do. Well, I did! The next thing I know I hear my mom yelling my name as the screen door slams behind her. She grabs me by the  hand and takes me to the water hose, and rinses me off. Then we went inside where I had to take a bath, with her scrubbing me with a little brown rubber scrubber! To moms defense, I had come inside for something, and brought the mud with me,  tracking it in the house. There also was mud on everything I touched!  The only way I could get clean without dirtying everything up was to have her do it for me. At the time I was to young to understand why she was so mad. After all, it was just dirt!

This Psalm reminds me of playing in the mud. Because we are born into sin we need someone to clean us up who does not have sin.

I WAITED patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry. 2 He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime), and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings. 3 And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord.

Psalms 40:1-3 (AMP)

We need Jesus to save us.

Let’s take a closer look:

“I WAITED patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.”

In the first verse we see that the person is waiting  expectantly for a response from God about something they have prayed about.

When a person asks Jesus into their life as their Lord, He saves them.

And it shall be that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord [ invoking, adoring, and worshiping the Lord—Christ] shall be saved.

Acts 2:21 (AMP)

“He drew me up out of a horrible pit [a pit of tumult and of destruction], out of the miry clay (froth and slime),”

My life before excepting Jesus as my Lord was a real mess. Now, life still has its moments when it is the “pits” and has  “slippery” situations; it is a mess with hope!

We are separated from God because of the sin in our lives.

Since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives.

Romans 3:23 (AMP)

Sin=Death

For the wages which sin pays is death, but the [bountiful] free gift of God is eternal life through (in union with) Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 6:23 (AMP)

Jesus=Life

But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.

Romans 5:8 (AMP)

Jesus never said that we would have it easy, He did say He would be our source of peace and deliverance when bad situations arise.

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]

John 16:33 (AMP)

“and set my feet upon a rock, steadying my steps and establishing my goings.”

For everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord [invoking Him as Lord] will be saved.

Romans 10:13 (AMP)

“And He has put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.”

Therefore if any person is [in grafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

2 Cor 5:17 (AMP)

“Many shall see and fear (revere and worship) and put their trust and confident reliance in the Lord.”

So we are Christ’s ambassadors, God making His appeal as it were through us. We [as Christ’s personal representatives] beg you for His sake to lay hold of the divine favor [now offered you] and be reconciled to God.

2 Cor 5:19-20 (AMP)

It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favor).

2 Cor 5:19

When we except Jesus (are born again), we can go and tell others about Him, and help them get out of the mud! ( Matthew 28: 19-20)
